What this standard covers, in our words

A CELL-LEVEL standard. UL's own catalogue entry gives the title as "Lithium Batteries", sixth edition, published 29 September 2020. It evaluates lithium cells against abuse — short circuit, crush, impact, shock, vibration, heating, temperature cycling — for use as components inside a product. It says nothing about an assembled pack, its battery management system or the vehicle it goes in, and it is not evidence for UL 2271 or UL 2580, which do. Makers who print it beside a pack's specifications are describing the cells they bought.
