Textron Specialized Vehicles: Hydraulic Brake Linkage Rod Defect, E-Z-GO Liberty LSV and Cushman LSVs (NHTSA 24V-709)

Hazard

The hydraulic brake linkage rod (part 10047664) connecting the brake pedal and bell crank was found during testing to be insufficient to meet the 250-lb proof load specified in the voluntary compliance standard SAE J2358. The rod could bend under forces approaching 250 pounds, impairing the hydraulic brake system and posing a crash hazard. NHTSA's own report states no failures had been reported in the field as of the recall decision.

What to do

Textron will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicle to an E-Z-GO or Cushman dealer to have the linkage rod replaced at no cost with a redesigned part (10099472) that has a shorter exposed thread length, making it more robust under bending and compression loading. Dealer and owner notification dates were not yet set as of the report's submission (September 24, 2024); the report states they would be distributed by November 23, 2024.

Description

This recall involves 2024-2025 model year E-Z-GO Liberty LSV, Cushman Tour LSV and Cushman Hauler Pro vehicles built between July 24, 2023 and September 7, 2024 (VINs 10RBE4LL0R3615233 through 10RBE4LLXS3643174 for the Liberty LSV). About 1,137 units are potentially involved, with an estimated 100% defect rate.
