Unchanged, and the operative sentence is theirs — NHTSA's Terms of Use, under OWNERSHIP: "Information presented on this web site is considered public information and may be distributed or copied." ONE CORRECTION MADE ON THAT READING. This record used to name the licence as "Public domain (17 U.S.C. § 105)" and cite the Terms of Use page for it. That page does not mention the statute anywhere — it says what is quoted above and nothing about copyright — so the citation did not contain what it was cited for (§13). The statute is real and is quoted here from the U.S. Code itself: 17 U.S.C. § 105(a), "Copyright protection under this title is not available for any work of the United States Government, but the United States Government is not precluded from receiving and holding copyrights transferred to it by assignment, bequest, or otherwise" (govinfo.gov, USCODE-2023-title17-chap1-sec105). The two are now recorded as what they are: the agency's own permission, and the statute behind it. The same page disclaims endorsement — reference to any commercial product or firm name "does not constitute endorsement, recommendation, or favoring by NHTSA/DOT" — so their seal is treated as restricted rather than assumed reusable, on the same reasoning applied to the CPSC seal.
